Exulam Holman, a 32-year-old Illinois man was jailed after he allegedly gouged out his uncle’s eyeballs during an argument over a remote control on New Year’s Eve.

According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, officers were called to the scene of a domestic disturbance at around 10:00 p.m.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man at the bottom of the basement stairs with blood pouring from his eye sockets.

The 62-year-old man’s eyeballs were swollen, dislocated and protruding about a quarter-inch from his eye sockets, according to the arrest affidavit.

Investigators say the victim told police that he and Davis were arguing over a TV remote New Year’s Eve when Davis knocked him to the ground and gouged out his eyes using his thumbs.

Davis then pushed the victim down the basement stairs.

The victim reportedly lost consciousness during the attack, then regained it and fought through excruciating pain to call 911. He was taken to Silver Cross Hospital, then transferred to the University of Illinois at Chicago Hospital for advanced care, where he went through surgery.

The victim is now blind in his left eye, and has limited vision in his right eye. Additional surgery is required to regain sight in his right eye.

Davis was booked into jail and charged with two counts of felony aggravated domestic battery and one count of aggravated battery. He is being held in lieu of $1,000,000 bond. If convicted, he could face up to seven years in jail. Court records show that he has been arrested for numerous assault charges dating back to 1999.
